7 DIMENSIONS

Social

I am connected to myself and those around me.

Social connection begins with the relationships we build with ourselves and others. It means creating and nurturing relationships where we can feel seen, supported, and connected while also honoring our own needs and boundaries.

We are wired for connection. From our earliest days, relationships help us feel safe, understood, and part of something larger than ourselves. Family, friendships, partnerships, colleagues, neighbors, and communities can all contribute to our sense of belonging. Even brief moments of genuine connection can remind us that we are not moving through life alone.

But connection isn’t simply about having more people in our lives. The quality of our relationships matters. Healthy relationships allow room for honesty, reciprocity, respect, and difference. They give us space to be ourselves while remaining curious about the experiences of others.

Our relationship with ourselves is part of this dimension, too. When we meet ourselves with greater compassion and understand our own needs, values, and boundaries, we are better able to show up authentically with others. We can communicate more clearly, ask for what we need, listen with greater openness, and recognize when a relationship supports us or when something needs to change.

Boundaries are an important part of connection. They aren’t walls that keep people out. They help us understand where we end and another person begins. Learning when to say yes, when to say no, when to move closer, and when to create space allows relationships to become more honest and sustainable.

There will also be seasons when connection feels harder. Relationships change. Friendships shift. Families evolve. We may experience loneliness even when surrounded by people. Social growth isn’t about never feeling alone. It’s about noticing our need for connection and finding meaningful ways to reach toward ourselves and one another.

Belonging isn’t about fitting in everywhere. It’s about finding the relationships and communities where we can be ourselves and allowing others the freedom to do the same.
