Physical Wellness
I am aware of my amazing body and tune into it for messages.
Physical Wellness means listening to the body as a guide while nourishing and nurturing it for optimal health and functioning.
The wonder of the human body serves as a constant reminder of the complexity and splendor of nature. From the intricate workings of our internal organs to the way our senses interact with the world around us, every aspect of our physiology is a testament to the natural world. Physical health will always be important, but overall wellness in our other dimensions does not depend on being in good shape physically. Instead, we can use the body as a compass, alerting us when something is wrong or out of alignment across the different aspects of our lives.
When we consider the body as a guide or a trusted friend, we can begin to listen to and understand its messages. Symptoms are the body’s way of communicating with us. Instead of fighting them or pushing them away, we can learn to interpret them and respond with curiosity and compassion. By doing so, we can create a deeper connection with our body and cultivate a sense of gratitude for all that it does for us.
For instance, a headache might be a sign that we need to hydrate or get some rest. Instead of using painkillers to mask the symptoms, we can take a moment to pay attention and ask into the symptom. What does my body need? Am I overworked? Am I hydrated? This approach allows us to build a stronger relationship with our body and respond to its needs in a proactive and compassionate way.
Body intelligence focuses on having a sharp and sensitive awareness of what is going on inside and outside our body. It is the ability to be aware of and respond to the body’s signals. It is a skill that can be developed through practice, and it can have a number of benefits for physical and mental health.
- Mindfulness: Mindfulness is paying attention to the present moment without judgment. It can be practiced through meditation, yoga, or simply paying attention to your body as you go about your day.
- Body scanning: Body scanning is a technique that involves focusing your attention on different parts of your body, one at a time. This can help you become more aware of your body’s sensations and identify any areas of tension or discomfort.
- Movement awareness: Movement awareness is paying attention to how you move your body. This can help you become more aware of your body’s alignment and to identify any areas of weakness or imbalance.
- Intuition: Listening to your intuition is your body’s way of communicating with you. It can give you valuable information about your physical and emotional state.
When we look inside for answers, we become more aware of the vast amount of knowledge stored in our cells. Wellness today necessitates a higher standard of personal accountability. By learning our body’s language, putting our trust in it, and taking proactive steps to maintain and care for it, we can achieve a higher level of wellness.
“You’re a human being, not a human doing.
While daily movement and maintaining muscle mass are imperative for optimum health and longevity, listening to our body when it calls for rest is critical. We get it wrong when we think of rest as a reward for hard work when, in fact, rest should be prioritized to enhance productivity as well as health and happiness! Rest is one of the most underappreciated forms of nourishment; rest is foundational for wellness.”
